RezOvation Desktop FAQs : Booking Engine : Rates and Availability

Q. I'm on a network. Does the auto update feature need to be active on all of my computers?

A. Only one computer should be updating the Booking Engine (i.e have “AUTO UPDATES” turned on) . Ideally, this should be the server computer; however any computer in the network should be satisfactory. Additionally, you should run any the of the Booking Engine utilities on the designated “auto update” computer. This includes auto updates, verify configuration, and verify occupancy.

Q. How can I reload my room and rate information or my room availability?

A. To reload configuration information, or load new configuration information such as rooms or rates, use the Verify Configuration option.

To reload room availability information, use the Verify Occupancy option.

Q. How often should I run Verify Configuration and Verify Occupancy?

A. Any time you make changes to your configuration, including changing rates, adding or subtracting units, marking units as online bookable or not online bookable, etc, you should run Verify Configuration. This will validate and update all of the rate and unit information on the booking engine with that on your desktop system. This will also reconfirm your occupancy. You should NEVER cancel this process without first contacting support. Canceling this process may result in incorrect occupancy on your web site.

Verify Occupancy can be run periodically (once a week, unless recommended otherwise by the support team). Once again, if you are running this process, you should not cancel it, as canceling this process may also result in incorrect occupancy on your web site. Note that the Auto Update feature is designed to keep your occupancy up to date.

Q. Do I have to run Verify GDS/ODS?

A. This function is only for our customers using our GDS/ODS system. If you are not on this system, you will never need to run this function. If you are using the GDS/ODS system, then you will only need to run this function when you need to reload all of your occupancy. This should only be run according to the recommendation of our support staff. As with the Booking Engine, the auto update function in the RezOvation desktop system should maintain an accurate reflection of your occupancy. If you do choose to run this function, however, please remember to let it run all of the way through and DO NOT CANCEL this process once it has started. Doing such may result in inaccurate availability and possibly double bookings.

Q: How do I manually update my availability?

A: There is no manual update feature for the Booking Engine, as all updates occur automatically. Normally RezOvation Desktop software will be synchronized with the Booking Engine every few seconds.

If you do not have access to RezOvation Desktop and need to block out a room, you can block the room using your cell phone or PDA with the Mobile Booking Engine.

Note that you cannot use the “update availability” button, as this is only used for other availability services such as Webervations, etc.
