RezOvation Desktop Update Instructions - Network Installation

Note: A network installation typically consists of 2 or more computers connected to the same database over a network.

Step 1 - Locate the server or main computer

Determine which machine is your RezOvation database server. Have all other users exit RezOvation Desktop.

NOTE: If you are unsure which machine is your database server, please do the following:

  • On each computer, open RezOvation and select File > Network Path.
  • At the top you should see an entry that says "Current:", followed by the path information. If the path reads "C:\Program Files\RezOvation\" (or any other path beginning with a "C:\") then this computer is most likely the database server. If instead the path reads "R:\" or "\\SERVERNAME\RezOvation\" then this computer is most likely the client or remote computer.
  • If you are still not sure which machine is the database server, then please contact your system administrator or technical support.

Step 2 - Close all programs except for RezOvation Desktop on the server, and close RezOvation Desktop on the client computers

Close all open programs except RezOvation Desktop on the server. Close RezOvation Desktop on ALL client computers, except for the main server computer.

Step 3 - Connect to the Internet

Make sure you are connected to the Internet, as you will need to download the program update files.

Step 4 - Download updates

Open RezOvation Desktop and click on "Help" and then choose "Support -> Download RezOvation Update". RezOvation Desktop will download the latest update to your computer. This may take a while if you have a slow internet connection.

  • If you get a warning saying your update contract has expired, you may need to purchase or authorize your update subscription. Please go to the unlock code page on this site to obtain a new code.
  • If you get a connection error message, please check your Internet and/or firewall settings. You may need to temporarily disable your firewall and/or grant our RezOvation program access to the Internet. Please consult your firewall documentation for more details.

Step 5 - Exit RezOvation Desktop and backup your database

After the download is complete, exit RezOvation Desktop. Make sure you actually close the program - do not just minimize it.

When you close the program, it will ask you if you want to make a backup. Choose "Yes" and save this backup to a safe location (your hard drive, another computer, a ZIP disc, a USB Flash drive, or burn it to a CD.)

NOTE: Please refer to the RezOvation Help File or see this FAQ for more information on making a backup of your database.

Step 6 - Install the update files

Assuming that RezOvation is installed in the default location (C:\Program Files\RezOvation), answer "Continue", "OK", or "Yes" to all the screens that appear after you've closed RezOvation Desktop and made your backup. If RezOvation is installed in a different directory, you will need to extract the program and reports updates to the directory you've installed it to.

Step 7 - Install the SOAP toolkit (if prompted)

You will be prompted to install the "SOAP Toolkit". Choose the option to either Install or Repair.

NOTE: This is a required step if you are using the Booking Engine. Please see the "SOAP Install" instructions below.

Step 8 - Launch RezOvation Desktop and confirm update

Reopen RezOvation Desktop. The version number should read the current version. You can also confirm the version number by selecting Help > About from the menu in RezOvation.

NOTE: If you receive an error "35602" when launching RezOvation, click OK, log in, then exit RezOvation. Open RezOvation again and the error should not appear. This occurs because you did not follow the install procedures, and the Reports table in RezOvation was not properly updated. However, RezOvation will automatically correct this error when you reload it.

Step 9 - Update the client computers

Launch RezOvation Desktop on one of the client computers. You should be prompted to install the update.

Assuming that RezOvation is installed in the default location (C:\Program Files\RezOvation), answer "Continue", "OK", or "Yes" to all the screens that appear after you've closed RezOvation Desktop and made your backup. If RezOvation is installed in a different directory, you will need to extract the program and reports updates to the directory you've installed it to.

NOTE: if this method does NOT work, then you have two options:

  • Install the update files manually by navigating to the RezOvation file share on server (e.g. \\SERVERNAME\RezOvation\) and launching the following files in order:
    ROUpdate2007.exe
    Reports2007.exe
  • Download the updates manually to each client computer and install. See Step 4 above for details.
