How do I change the tax rate?

Overview
Changing a tax rate in Guest Tracker is easy to do, as long as you follow the proper steps.

CAUTION: Version 3 users need to be sure that they are using version 3.1.0.0 or better before adjusting tax rates.
If you are not sure which version you are using, click HELP and ABOUT from the main Guest Tracker window.
If you need to download the Version 3 Pro update to upgrade version 3.0 to version 3.1, CLICK HERE

Step by Step
1.)
All tax rates should be set up and changed in the revenue accounts only. Changing the tax rates inside of individual charge items is possible, but should be avoided in almost every circumstance.
2.)
Open the Admin section and click on .
3.)
Click on the account name you wish to change the rates on, then click to see the detail window.

4.)
Change the tax rate by clicking on it and then adjusting it to the new amount.

5.)
When you click , the system will let you know that you have changed the tax rate for this account and will ask if you wish to update everything that uses this account.

If you answer NO, none of your current invoices will be changed. Only items entered from this point forward will use the new tax rate. You will be returned to the Revenue Accounts screen. There is nothing else to change.

If you answer YES, you will be prompted for the effective date of the tax change and for other changes involving the new rate.

6.)
If the revenue account you are changing was used as a component in one or more of your packages, you will receive a warning that these packages may now be unbalanced. Packages will only be unbalanced if they are packages that include the tax as part of their base rate. To fix this, edit each affected package to bring the balance back to 0.00.

If you do not use packages with components, or if you do, but those packages do not have the tax included in the base rate, there is nothing that will need changing.

7.)
Next, you are asked if you would like to update all future charges. Again, this only affects packages with components. It is safe to answer YES to this question. If there is nothing to update, nothing will change.
8.)
Finally, you are asked to choose a date for the tax change to take effect. It is important that you click on the day you wish the change to take effect, even if that day appears to already be highlighted!

Also, if you are selecting a past date, be sure that the month, year, and day are all properly selected before clicking .

9.)
If there were no future component package charges to update and you answered YES to the question about future charges, you will see a message telling you that "No future charges were updated."
10.)
You have now successfully changed your tax rate. All reservations that use this revenue account from the date you selected forward should be using the new rate. All reservations made from this point forward will use the new rate.
