Why should I restart the computer?

Overview
Some computer users turn their computers off at night; other users leave their computers running day and night and never reboot until the system freezes.  Waiting to restart your system until it locks up may corrupt your Guest Tracker database which could result in the loss of your data.

As you use various programs on your computer, Windows does not always do an efficient job of freeing system resources that were allocated to the different programs. Therefore, the longer the time period between system restarts, the greater the performance degradation.

Solution
It is easy to resolve this issue by restarting your computer at least once a day.  Even if you leave your computer on 24/7, it only takes a few minutes to reboot the computer and reload the system resources while you are getting another cup of coffee or doing some other task.

If you notice that the computer is running slower and you are not printing or performing a resource intensive task, you want to restart the computer!

Procedure
1) If you have not already done so, click the Exit button to quit the Guest Tracker program.  Also exit any other programs that you may be running.

Exit button is leftmost
2) From the desktop, click the Windows Start button and select Shut Down as shown below.

START: Shut Down
3) Select Restart as shown below.

Shut Down: Restart
4) The computer will restart and the system resources will be refreshed.
5) After the computer is restarted, you can start the Guest Tracker program as shown below.

START: Programs: Guest Tracker: Guest Tracker
6)

If the computer had crashed while you were using Guest Tracker, you need to start Database Utilities and first run Verify, then run Compact to insure the integrity of your database.

You are ready to start using Guest Tracker.
